Bernard Kortmann

Bernard Kortmann, 71, of Highland, Indiana passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018. He is survived by: his loving wife of eleven years Bienjen, mother-in-law, siblings in Germany, a niece and great niece on the east coast, and family in West Virginia, and the Philippines.

 Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8941 Kleinman Rd. (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with Military Honors to be conducted at 6:30 pm. Funeral mass will be Friday 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 525 Broad St. Griffith, IN, 46319. Cremation to follow.

Bernard was a person devoted to reading, a bookworm, a history buff and a workaholic with strong work ethics. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and a Master Mason member of Griffith Lodge No. 735. As a Noble, Bernard was committed to make a difference in this world and put a smile on a child's face. He was a zealous supporter of Operation Smile and the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Bernard was a man of his words who touched the lives of others. He will always be remembered for his commitment, honesty, loyalty, and random acts of kindness. Bernard was a beacon of hope and strength.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Shriners Children Hospital would be preferred.
