George G.(Sparky) Shawn Sr., 87, of Gary, IN, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018. He is survived by: beloved wife Carolyn Sue Shawn, caring children George G. Shawn Jr., Mary (Marshall) Rios, Gregory (Kimberly) Shawn, and Brenda (Mike) Batusic, loving grandchildren Christina (Joe) Halas, Elizabeth Call, Gregory (Jillian) Shawn, Aneece (Adam) Alicea, Erica Rios, and Angela (Adam) Osburn, and great-grandchildren Isabelle Seanor, Riley Shawn, Madison Shawn, Bailey Shawn, Elena Shawn, Cadence Alicea, Violet Alicea, Celeste Alicea, Avarie Rondeau, Alexandra Rondeau, Andrew Osburn, Aaron Osburn, and Alex Osburn. He was preceded in death by his grandson, George Shawn III.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be Friday, January 19, 2018 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center beginning at 10:00 am with Pastor Steve Martinez officiating. Burial at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

George was a deacon of Black Oak Church of Christ, an Army Medic Korean War Veteran, and had worked at Inland Steel for 39 years.
