Laura M. Burgess

Laura M. Burgess, 87, of Highland, IN, passed away February 20, 2018. She is survived by: beloved husband of 69 years Harry "Tom" Burgess, loving daughter Claudia (Don) Zikas, caring sons Tom (Pat) Burgess, Paul (Mindy) Burgess, and John Burgess, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by: parents Joseph and Martha Butkus, daughter Marcia Jean, and brothers Vetold and Al Butkus.

A Memorial Mass will be held in her honor Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Anthony Village Chapel, 203 N. Franciscan Dr. Crown Point, IN, 46307 beginning at 11:00 am.

Laura was born in Indiana Harbor and was a proud graduate of Washington High School “Class of ‘49” and Calumet College of St. Joseph. She taught Theology and Home Economics at Bishop Noll Institute for 17 years, and instructed Upward Bound classes at Purdue University Calumet. A devout Catholic, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher at St. James the Less Parish in Highland. Laura enjoyed cooking, sewing, and hosting parties. She was loved by family, friends, and students, and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
