Joseph Nowak Obituary

Joseph A. Nowak, age 85, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

He is survived by his son, Daniel (Michelle) Nowak; grandchildren, Danielle (Daniel) Scheidt, Jason (Harlene) Nowak, Daniel Nowak Jr, and Robert Nowak; great-grandchildren, Evalina Nowak and Violet Scheidt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Walyera (Violet) Nowak; wife, Valerie (Sue) Nowak; sons, Joseph Nowak and John Nowak; daughter-in-law Kathy Nowak; brother, Robert Nowak; sisters, Bernice Petty and Frances Willis.

Joe was born on June 6, 1938, in East Chicago, Indiana. After school, he joined the Army, where he served until 1964. Joe and Sue bought their home in Hammond to raise their three sons. Later, they would build a home in St John. During their many years in St John, they made great lifelong friends with neighbors. Joe was a diesel mechanic who retired from Consolidated Freight after over 45 years in the union.

Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, grandchildren, and friends. However, what Joe enjoyed the most was spending time with his grandchildren, no matter what they were doing. He was their biggest fan at the many sporting events that his grandchildren took part in, always cheering them on.

Joe was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched.
