Andrew G. "Andy" Holinga, 62, of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2018 surrounded by his mother, sister, brother, brother-in-law, and neighbors. He is survived by: mother Irene, siblings George (Karen) Holinga, Peggy (Thomas) Katona, nieces Dr. Julie (Brian) Hamburg, Dr. Andrea ( Mike) Vennemeyer, nephew Dr. George Holinga Jr., great-nieces Caroline, Madeline, and Alexandra, and uncle Joseph (Gracie) Marcinov. Andy was preceded in death by: father Andrew G. Holinga.
Andy was a lifelong outdoorsman loving hunting, fishing, and camping which led him to owning and operating Andy's Valley View Motel in Crystal Falls Michigan. Sometimes he would put up the "no vacancy" sign in order to spend time fishing, hunting, and camping with friends and relatives rather than making an extra buck! In the mid 90's, with the travel industry suffering in the Upper Peninsula, Andy moved back down to his hometown of Highland where he was able to put his other passions for woodworking, fixing things, and construction to gainful and self fulfilling use. He was hired into the banking industry and spent the last 20 years with Centier Bank. He absolutely loved not only what he did, but all of the bank associates he worked with. There wasn’t a construction job or problem he wasn’t able to fix. Whether it was a nonworking fountain, or building a parade float, he loved the challenge. He will be sorely missed by everyone that he came in contact with, but as he said in his last days; "I’ll see you in heaven!"
