Carl (Jim) Oman, age 86 of Griffith, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 9th, 2019. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Louise (Whitmer) Oman, daughter Kim (Rick) Domsic of Florida, son Scott (Beth) Oman of Munster, grandchildren Brittany (Carter) Robinson of Georgia and Grant (Lindsay) Domsic of Florida, four great-grandchildren Jay and Foster Robinson and Madden and Reece Domsic as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Gus and Louise Oman, wife of 46 years Carol (Konopasek) Oman, sisters Margaret Clark, Louise Kornmann, Norma Beslich and Carol Portman and brother Gus Oman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 10am, directly at Griffith Lutheran Church located at 1000 N Broad St in Griffith with Rev. Freida Scales officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens located at 8178 Cline Ave in Schererville.
Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Hillside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland Indiana.
Jim was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in The Korean War on the USS Waldron 699. Following his service to our country he retired from BP Petroleum and was also a well-respected contractor in the area for over 40 years, something he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a member of the Griffith Lutheran Church, VFW Post #1563 in Merrillville, American Legion Post #66 in Griffith and Gary Sportsman Club. He loved to golf and spent many summers in various golf leagues around the area in addition to being a life-long Griffith Panthers fan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Griffith Lutheran Church.
