Constantin Ardeleanu

Constantin Ardeleanu in Griffith IN, formerly of Valparaiso, Schererville, and Highland, age 98, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2019. He is survived by his children; Constantin Aurel (Bessie) Ardeleanu, Cornelia (Robert) Merchant; grandchildren; Jennifer (J Wayne) Pantea Loader, Jason (Michelle) Pantea, C Evan Ardeleanu; great child Gabriel Contantin Loader; brother and sister-in-law; Justin and Marianna Ardeleanu. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarete Ardeleanu.

Friends are invited to visit with the family Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Descent of the Holy Ghost Orthodox Christian Church, 750 W 61st Ave, Merrillville, IN, 46410 with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. The Funeral Service will be Monday, October 7, 2019 beginning at 10:00 am at the church.

Constantin was born August 22, 1921, one of three sons of Thedore and Veturica Ardeleanu in a small village in the south-western county of Bihor, Transylvania, Romania.  Due to WWII, he was separated from his family and found himself in a Displaced Persons Camp near Saltgitter-Barum, Germany where he was a worker in a sugar factory. That is where he met the love of his life, Margaete Charlotte Wiechert and married August 12, 1948.  They subsequently, in 1951, immigrated to the US and settled in East Chicago, Indiana, where he started as a labor worker at Inland Steel Company, working his way up to where he was the Administer of Inland Steel Research Laboratory, and after 32 years of service, retired in 1983.

Since the time he immigrated to the US, he was one of the pillar members of the Descent of the Holy Ghost Orthodox Christian Church, holding many different positions of the Church Council, as well as being one of the lay representatives of the Parish at National Diocesan meeting.  He was a true example of Orthodox Christian devotion, as well as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
