Godfrey (Giff) Klacik passed away on February 2, 2018 at the age of 91 in Mesa, AZ. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.
He was born in Whiting, Indiana to Catherine and Andrew Klacik. Giff was a star basketball player for the Oilers at Whiting High School. As a youth, he spent many enjoyable hours with his friends at Whiting Beach.
Giff enlisted in the Army in 1945 and served his country in France and Germany. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in business.
He married Ingeborg Lange in 1950. She preceded him in death just six weeks ago. Giff loved to dance with Inge, his partner in life. They would have celebrated 68 years of marriage on February 4th.
Giff is survived by his daughters, Gail (Greg) McCluskey and Lynn Ritter; his grandchildren: Bob McCluskey, Jennifer McCluskey, Erin (Rob) Herndon and Bryan Ritter; his great grandchildren: Dylan and Kayden Lindesay, Mason, Finley, and Shea Herndon; and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Paschen.
Giff loved growing tomatoes and peppers which he shared freely with his friends and neighbors. He spent many hours collecting, listening to, and singing along with Big Band music.
Giff will be sadly missed by all.
A joint memorial service for Giff and Inge will be held on Friday, February 9th at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm followed by a prayer service at 7:00. Interment will be at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
