Karen Kwintera (nee Schuzer), 61, of Whiting IN, passed away June 15, 2019.
She is survived by her two children, Tracy (Dave) Gormley and Anthony (Elizabeth) Kwintera, six beloved grandchildren, David, Ethan, Ava, Veronica, Avery, and Dominic. Karen is the third child of five to Rudolph and Mary Schuzer (nee Cziczo). She has three brothers (Rudolph, Michael, and Ronald) and a sister (Lorraine). She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony Kwintera Sr. She was the loving aunt of many treasured nieces and nephews.
Karen was born in Chicago, IL and lived in the neighborhood of Burnside where she met and fell in love with her husband, Anthony. A Chicago girl at heart, she moved to Whiting, IN to settle down with her husband and fledgling family.
Karen enjoyed painting, Gone with the Wind, competitive bird-feeding, and all-things Christmas. Her love of the White Sox was surpassed only by her hatred for the Cubs. Above all, she adored her grandchildren and made it a point to be present for every milestone in their lives. Even in failing health—several days before her passing—she found the strength to attend several events for her grandchildren.
Karen liked to keep things simple and was fiercely independent—some might even say stubborn. She was never one to ask for help, but those close to her knew she would always the first to offer help. One cannot think of Karen without acknowledging her generosity and kindness; she will be deeply missed.
