Marjorie Bluhm Obituary

MARJORIE L BLUHM ‘Marge’ passed away December 7, 2018, with family and friends surrounding her. Born to Howard and Lois Bluhm, near Berne, Indiana. She is survived by her brother, Duane (Alice) Bluhm, Berne Indiana. She has three nieces; Deb (Dave) Tumbleson, Geneva, IN, Cheryl (Jeff) Speakman, Anderson, IN, Jenni (John) Harsha, New Port Richey, FL, and a nephew, Mark, Decatur, IN. Three Great Nephews; Clint (Emily) Tumbleson, Ossian, IN, Dr. Kyle (Tracie) Speakman, Gas City, IN., Brad (Taylor) Tumbleson, Margarita, CA and three great nieces; Sandi (Ryan) Sprunger, Middletown, IN, Courtney (Sean) FitzSimons, Lafayette, IN, Darci (Brad) Church, Anderson, IN, and her uncle; Dr. Carl Zurcher, Huntington, IN and her six great-great neices, and many cousins and their relatives and her special friends: Suzanne Wasmund, Schererville, IN, Marsha Pelc, Hammond, IN and Martha Nicholson, Highland, IN. Marge graduated from Berne-French High School, Berne IN in 1954. She graduated from Ball State University in 1958 and came to Highland High School to teach Art. In 1964, received her master’s degree from Ball State University. The summers of 1965 and 1966, she taught Art to students at Huntington University, who were Elementary teacher majors. In 1967, she was appointed Art Coordinator, for the School; grades 1 through 12. She loved her teaching and her students, and she designed and created art appreciation classes that was a one-year class, she preferred calling it, Art History, because it was taught on the college level. In 1979, she become the founding sponsor of the National Art Honor Society. When she retired in 1992, she gave an art scholarship for the Outstanding National Art Student, which she has given every year through 2018. Marge loved reading, cooking, gardening, wood working, and loved to travel with her Best Friend, Suzanne and attend Northwest Indiana Symphony concerts and Lake shore concerts for over fifty-years. She made her own Christmas Cards, Get Well and Birthday cards, etc. making her famous for these cards and their design starting in 1958, through May 2018. Christmas Cards were made by screen printing and other were made by markers and color pencil designs. She loves sports, avid fan of the Cubs and followed Bears, watched Big Ten Football and Basketball, NFL Football games and Golf. She went to Highland High School boys’ and girls’ basketball from 1958 to Spring 2018. She was an active member at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Highland, IN. She served as a co-teacher of Sophomores in the early years, served on the Church Counsel for many years. She was the Vice President and President twice, Chair of elders three times, and designed all the bulletin board in the Narthex. The designs were change every month for the last twenty years. She created the curriculum and taught the Adult Bible Study for the past twenty-six years. She taught Art to the students of the Vocational Bible School, was a member of the Woman’s Guild, and enjoyed attending the Church Woman of Faith who attend various churches, three times a year. She attended many of the Indiana Kentucky conferences of the United Church of Christ in Indianapolis, IN for the past twenty years and was asked to design the annual design logos, three times. She was elected to attend the United Christ of Christ Synod in Hartford, CT in 2007 and in Grand Rapid, MI in 2009. Visitation at Hillside Funeral Home, from 3:00 to 7:00 on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2018, 10:00 am at Immanuel United Church of Christ. Services will be conducted by Pastor Merlyn Lawrence.  Funeral Services will be held at First Missionary Church,  Berne IN,  Saturday, December 15, 2018 . Burial will be after this service at M.R.E. cemetery, Berne, IN.
