Marquita E. Kenyon, 68, passed away on January 18, 2019, at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana, after a short illness. She was in the first graduating class of the “new” Morton High School in Hammond in 1968. The visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with a memorial service immediately following on Friday, January 25, 2019, at First Church of the Nazarene, 9930 Kennedy Ave., Highland, Indiana.
Marquita was born on August 25, 1950, in Hammond, Indiana to Albert and Alice Jenkins. She worked as a bookkeeper for Lowry & Weston in Highland, Indiana, for fourteen years. After earning her Associate’s Degree from Sawyer College in 2010, she worked for the adult education program in the School City of Hammond, from where she eventually retired. Over the years, she was an active member of the Hessville Church of the Nazarene, First Church of the Nazarene, East Chicago, and First Church of the Nazarene in Highland, and was a long time Sunday school teacher. In her free time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, adult coloring pages, and traveling.
She is survived by five children: Kenneth (Elizabeth) Kenyon II, Melaura (Paul) Potter, Tamara Kenyon, Alan (Clara) Jenkins, and Randall Kenyon; four granddaughters: Brianna, Sarah, Shauntee, and Brooke; two siblings: William (Dianna) Jenkins, and Vicky Mounts; and her former husband and father of her children, Kenneth Kenyon. She was preceded in death by her parents (Albert & Alice Jenkins), brother (Leon Jenkins), sister-in-law (Esther Jenkins), brother-in-law (Delmar Mounts), and grandson (Ryan).
