Steven Jenkins Obituary

Steven (Scuba Steve) Jenkins, age 43, passed away unexpectedly at home in Griffith, Indiana on Thursday, February 28th, 2019. Steven was born March 27th, 1975 in Hammond, Indiana. Steven was known for his sense of humor and willingness to help anyone in need. He made lasting impressions on anyone who got to know him, with his quick wit and fun demeanor. He always had an enthusiasm for sharing stories and anecdotes (which usually included his famous impressions). He was a wonderful cook and specialized in cooking Mexican dishes. Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, even if they were just talking while working on a project together. He loved building things, and spent 20 years in the construction industry. The smell of fresh cut wood was one of his favorite smells. He was a skilled carpenter who enjoyed working on framing houses the most. He especially enjoyed sharing his knowledge of working on cars and building things with his nephew Brandon Odle. Steven was employed at Point Medical Corporation in Crown Point, Indiana at the time of his death, where he had many friends and thoroughly enjoyed working at the same company as his sister, Nora. He always took the time to show he cared by pulling various pranks on his sister at work, such as putting tape on the bottom of her computer mouse and hiding full containers of coffee creamer in her coat pockets.

Steve is survived by his loving sisters, Nora (Christopher) Odle and Danielle Werth. He also leaves his nieces and nephews Zacharie, George, Emily, Brandon, Ethan, Allyssa, Cailee, Jaselyn and Brielle. And we cannot forget to mention his beloved dog Joe, who he leaves in the care of his sister Nora and family. Steven is preceded in death by his father Richard Jenkins, his mother Carol Lesiowski, and his dog Layla.

Per Steven’s wishes, there will be no funeral service and he will be cremated at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd., Highland, Indiana 46322. There will be a Celebration of Life for his friends and family to share memories and find comfort in each other at a later date that is yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Toys For Tots or the Humane Society in Steven’s name.

“Though we’re not sure who we are, we keep our heads up.
Though we’re not sure where we’re from, we keep our hearts up.
Though we’re not sure when we’ll leave, we keep our heads up.
Though we’re not sure where we’ll go, we keep our hopes up.”
