Sylvia Priscilla Lara

Sylvia Priscilla Lara was born in Norwich, CT on July 3, 1944, and passed away peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2019, at the age of 74. She is survived by her loving children, Jeanne Dobson, Joseph Lara IV, and Kathy Lara Harse; seven adoring grandchildren, Michelle Lester, Chelsea Hart, Joseph V, Nathan, Julie, and Elizabeth Lara, and Josiah Pallares; three great grandchildren, Mark Mahan, Myra & Michael Murray.   Sylvia was preceded in death by her dear husband, Joseph Lara, III.

She was raised by her loving grandmother until her teenage years. She loved living with her Meme and became fluent in French because of her French Canadian roots.

In high school, Sylvia moved to California and met the love of her life, Joseph Lara and was married to him for 57 years. She was affectionately known as Bunny.

Sylvia followed her husband everywhere he went while raising 3 children. She loved to travel and explore the beauty around her. Sylvia and Joe’s travels led them to Alaska where she was a school bus driver and Pastor’s wife.

She had a love for arts and crafts and mastered them.  She drew, painted, sewed, photographed, made jewelry, and knitted. She always had a project on hand.

Her eye for color and creativity become most alive when she accepted Jesus into her life. At one point in her life, Sylvia’s husband became a Christian, and she herself maintained reading the Bible. However, one night while reading her Bible, Jesus became undeniably real to her, and she asked for Him to truly have a place in her heart. She reportedly saw instant change. Colors around her became brighter, smells sweeter, and life happier. Her faith was important to her, and now she is with Jesus who was her friend, support, and saviour in life.
