Thomas Chumley

Thomas L. Chumley,76, of Griffith, IN passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018. He was born in Muhlenburg County, KY to William and Violet Chumley. His family moved to the Calumet Region where he lived in Cedar Lake, Calumet City and Hammond before moving to Griffith. Most of his school years were spent in Calumet City where he attended Thornton Fractional North High School. Tom drove a semi truck for over 40 years, driving in excess of a million miles and traveling most of the continental United States. He was retired from Federated Logistics, Inc. He was proud of his trucking career and shared many stories of life on the road. He often said if he had it to do over he would pick trucking again. He loved to play the guitar and was an avid fan of country music. He often played and sang with friends. He was a voracious reader and well read. Tom was a member of Griffith First Christian Church where he served as a deacon. Tom's family was very important to him. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and they loved spending time with him. He was happy and fun and had a great sense of humor. He had many good qualities. He was nonjudgemental, honest and always fair. He was somebody you could always count on and true to his word. He loved to cook, starting with a basic recipe and tweaking it to make it his own. He is survived by: his wife Sharon (Bartoszek), children Tom Chumley, Jim (Pam) Chumley, Terri (Mike) Trombley,Tracy Chumley, Michelle (Steve) Westlund, Brian (Aimee) Bartoszek, sister Pat (Henry) Showers, brother Larry (Diane) Chumley, 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
