Amparo Garcia Benau

Amparo Garcia Benau, 85, passed away in her sleep on Sunday, November 14, 2021. She was born September 18, 1936, in Garciasville, Texas to Israel Garcia and Teresa Dias. She married on October 4, 1969, in Chicago, IL to William J. Benau Sr.

A celebration of Amparo's life will be at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322, on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm, with a service beginning at 5:15 pm.

Amparo was a very smart woman as she entered college at age 16 and started working as a public school teacher in Texas in 1955 at age 19 right out of college. She continued teaching for the rest of her life until her retirement from Cooper Primary School in Chicago, IL in 1989. She taught all grades from kindergarten through college courses.

Amparo was an impulsive vacationer driving her family to different scenic areas around the US. While she was at home, she opened her kitchen to friends and neighborhood kiddos. Always keeping busy, she retired to take care of her ailing husband and later after his passing, dedicated her time to her grandchildren,

She is remembered through her three children Theresa Amparo, Thomas Andrew & Ted Albert, and her four grandchildren: Selena, Theodore, Mercedes, & Elijah, and her extended grandchildren Josh, David, Nathan, Audri, Emma, Hannah & Isabel. In addition, she leaves behind her siblings: Consuelo, Robert, Erasmo, Minnie, Lily-Gloria, Bireyna, Hermelinda & Rosalinda. 

Her passing was preceded by her husband William, her brother Israel Jr. and her sisters Esperanza & Teresa.
