Antonio S. Salinas, age 85, passed away at home on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary C. Salinas, children Martin Salinas, Juan (Salina) Salinas, Noel (Kristine) Salinas, Omar (Cesaly) Pulido, and Ray (Suzanna) Salinas. Grandchildren Gabriel, Martin Jr, Nikko (Alyssa), Janessa (Christopher), Jessica, Marcos, Fabian, Ariel, Erik, Yanette, Drake, Brianne, Mikaela, Cesar, Tadeo, and Ava. Great grandkids Elijah, Leonardo, Lincoln, Chloe, Benjamin, De’Angelo, Gianni, Carter, and Luciano. Siblings Raquel (Manuel) Lopez, Guadalupe Madrigal and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and canine pal Chico.
Preceded in death by parents Juan and Herminia Salinas, loving daughter Maricela Raquel Salinas, son Antonio Jr. Salinas, and numerous brothers and sisters.
Tony was born on June 13, 1940, in Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato, Mexico. He worked hard at a young age to help support his parents and siblings. Tony came to the United States and met Mary, the love of his life, on February 27, 1965, in California where they got married and together, they shared 61 years settling in East Chicago, IN to raise their family. Tony retired from Inland Steel with 32 years of service and then began to work with his daughter at her restaurant CHELA’S.
He enjoyed going to Indiana Beach, camping with his family and eventually bought a lake house there where he enjoyed gardening and working on the house.
Tony was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held W ednesday, April 15, 2026 at 10:30 am at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN with Rev. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating.
Additional visitation will be Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 10:00 am until time Mass at the church.
Burial to follow at St. John/ St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
