Arlene Biedakiewicz, age 77, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Arlene was born on July 2, 1948, in East Chicago, IN, and was a proud 1966 graduate of East Chicago Washington High School. On July 24, 1993, she married the love of her life, Mike Biedakiewicz. Together they shared 32 beautiful years of marriage - building a life full of love and laughter in the Harbor’s Sunnyside neighborhood.
Arlene was the devoted mother of Ricca (Roman) Perez, She adored her role as “Nana” to Charles (Jessica) Campos, Christian (Erica) Campos, Noah Perez and Kobe Perez as well as her great-grandchildren, Lorenzo, Alonzo and Adriana Campos; Sisters, Cheryl Bernal, Theresa (Richard) Figueroa; Brothers, Stanley (Sue) Krol and Timothy (Pamela) Krol, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
There was nothing Arlene cherished more than being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the absolute light of her life and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them. Whether cheering them on at their games, holding their hands, or simply watching them play, “NaNa’s” love for them knew no bounds. Her eyes lit up at the sound of their voices, and her face beamed with pride at every milestone - big or small.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley “Sticker” and Dorothy Krol, and her sister, Bonnie (Louis) Olar.
Proud co-owner of Early Blossom Nursery School in Indiana Harbor and retired preschool teacher, “Miss. Arlene” dedicated her life to nurturing young minds with patience, warmth and compassion. Her work touched countless families and her legacy lives on in the lives she helped shape. She was admired and loved by students, colleagues, friends and neighbors alike.
In addition to her love for family and teaching, Arlene enjoyed cooking - her Mac & Cheese dish was a fan favorite. She also cherished spending time with her friends playing volleyball and bowling. Her competitive spirit, infectious laughter and genuine camaraderie brought joy to those around her for many years.
Arlene’s legacy is one of deep love, fierce devotion and unwavering kindness. She leaves behind a family who adored her and a community forever better because she was part of it.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN, 46322.
