Bettie (Acker) Click Obituary

Bettie (Acker) Click, at the age of 86, peacefully passed and went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2022. Bettie was born on December 20, 1935 in Columbus, Lowndes County, Mississippi to her parents of Zach and Ophelia (Wallace) Acker.

After moving to Birmingham, Alabama, Bettie met the love of her life, George Richard Click. They moved to Hammond, Indiana, married on March 10, 1962, and began building their life together. This past March, they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Those 60 years were focused not just on a marriage, but on a family of 2 sons that would grow to include a daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren. Family was always the primary focus for Bettie.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Bettie was employed for many years by JCPenney at the downtown Hammond store location.

Bettie was a longtime devoted member of Woodmar Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana. While there, she spent many years tending to the church nursery. Her faith and church community were deeply important to her.

The values she instilled in us of acceptance, respect, and care for others made her an admirable woman. She was by far the most unconditionally loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend anyone could hope for. She was the heart and soul of our family. We will forever live with the beautiful memories and experiences we shared with her.

Bettie was a Southerner at heart. She thoroughly enjoyed southern cooking and southern hospitality. She was an avid fan of westerns and vintage movies. She was our family historian - an encyclopedia of family stories, knowledge, and facts. She was the go to person.

Bettie is survived by her husband, George Richard Click; her children, Richard Click and Steve (Julie) Click; her grandchildren, Austin Click and Ava Click; her brother, Robert (Judy) Acker; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bettie is preceded in death by her brother, Joe (Jean) Acker; her sister, Louise Acker; and her brother, Thomas Acker.
