Bobby Wright Obituary

Bobby Ray Wright, 91, of Highland, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Franciscan Health in Dyer, Indiana.
Bobby was born at home on March 31, 1935 to the late Frank and Ruthie Thompson Wright. He entered the world on a cold winter morning in a small back room of his parents’ home in Kentucky.
The youngest of eight children, Bobby dearly loved his family. Although he was the baby of the family, he often assumed the role of protector. While he spent much of his life living in Indiana, his heart never left Kentucky where he was a longtime member of New Cypress Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, Kentucky. He cherished every opportunity to return home and visit family and friends.
Bobby attended New Cypress Community School from first through eighth grade and graduated from Graham High School in 1953. In June 1957, Bobby entered the United States Army, completing basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, followed by advanced training in Aberdeen, Maryland. In 1958, he was deployed to Germany, where he served for the remainder of his enlistment until his honorable discharge in June 1959.
Following his military service, Bobby was employed by Inland Steel, where he worked until his retirement in October 1988.
A dedicated outdoorsman and conservationist, Bobby was a longtime member of the Izaak Walton League, joining in April 1988. Throughout his years of service, he held numerous leadership positions, including Recording Secretary, President for two years, Membership Director for seven years, Treasurer for seven years, National Director for twenty years, and member of the Board of Directors for the remainder of his life. Bobby also served as Treasurer of the Cedar Lake Fish and Game Club and was a member of the Lake County Fish and Game Protective Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ernestine, Earline, Ruby, and Inez; and his brothers, T.C., L.V., and Frank Wright, Jr.
Bobby is survived by several loving nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
His life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for family, community, and the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
