Christopher William Barnes, age 40, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
He is survived by his parents Donna (Glenn) Goubeaux and Vince (Helen) Barnes; siblings, Aaron Barnes, Joel (Rayna) Barnes, Jordan (Tiffany) Barnes, Elisabeth (Michael) Hileman and step siblings, Desiree (David) Feeler, Grayland (Sonia) Goubeaux, and Brant (Hannah) Goubeaux; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
His legacy and love will live on in his five children, Cameron Barnes (mother, Suzi Leverenz), Kylee and Cayden Barnes (mother, Sheri Spolnik) and Ever and Aurora Barnes (mother, Samantha Hulbert).
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Madelon Fielding and Ronald and Barbara Barnes.
Chris was born on October 19, 1984, in Hammond, Indiana. He was a 2003 graduate of Munster High School and was in the process of finishing his bachelor’s degree in cyber security with Grand Canyon University.
Chris loved playing ice hockey. He was part of the Munster High School hockey team and was a devoted Chicago Blackhawks fan. He was a talented singer and played the piano. He could pretty much play any instrument he picked up. People close to Chris remember his ability to make them laugh. He strived to be genuine and didn’t hesitate to call people out when he felt they could do better, but he was hardest on himself.
Chris was smart, creative, and wanted to do better for himself and his children. His goal was never to be rich or famous. He just wanted to be accepted, and he felt that in his relationship with God. He loved his Savior, and he had a great understanding of the Word which he did not hesitate to share with others.
Chris had his struggles in this world and those who loved him watched how he longed for a life of normalcy. He had those periods when all was well and he played at the beach with his children, worked IT for churches, and spent time with his parents, brothers, and sister. We all selfishly wanted Chris to stay here with us, but we know he is healed and whole in the presence of God and look forward to that day when we will see him again.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Mission Bible Church, at 3010- 41st Street, Highland, IN 46322. Visitation is from 11am to 1pm. Service will begin at 1pm and a luncheon will be served at the church afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made for Chris’s children through their grandmother, Donna Goubeaux.
