Curt R. Carpenter age 66, of Highland, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025.
He is survived by his mother Shirley; daughter Heather (Eric) and granddaughter Vivienne Elpers; life partner Jennifer Watanabe; brothers Kent (Danielle) Carpenter and Craig (Laura) Carpenter; nephews Andrew, Benjamin, Samuel and Brandon; nieces Courtney and Ashley; and great nephews Charlie and Henry. Father figure to Christopher, Carrie, and Melanie; and Poppa Curt to Brayden and Mackenzie.
Preceded in death by his father William; brother Chris; and nephew Alex.
Curt grew up the oldest of 4 boys in Highland and graduated Highland High School in 1976. He was a loving father and grandfather and loved taking pictures of his granddaughter, Vivi. Curt was employed as a chemical operator at NALCO and Fuchs Lubricate; and as a seam welder at Comscope.
Curt was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Bears, Bulls, White Sox and New York Rangers. His favorite sporting event to attend was the Kentucky Derby. His hobbies included golfing and scuba diving. He completed more than 300 dives all over the world. He was passionate about music. He went to more than 100 concerts, including seeing his favorite bands The Who and Rolling Stones whenever they were in town.
He was a member of American Legion Post 180 in Highland for 31 years.
Curt enjoyed life to the fullest and was loved by many. He will be dearly missed.
Curt’s Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post 485 at 7485 Burr Street, Schererville, IN on July 26, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Join us in celebrating Curt’s life with family, friends, and great stories. Food and cash bar will be available. Please note the road is open to the American Legion.
