Daniel J. Tompkins

Daniel J. Tompkins, formerly of Griffith, IN, passed away on October 31, 2020 at age 55. He is preceded in death by: brother Jeffrey Tompkins, sister Kymberly Tompkins, brother Timothy Tompkins, and parents Edward & Patricia Tompkins. He is survived by: twin sister Laurie Gutierrez, sister Debbie (Cox) Tompkins, sister Carolyn Tompkins (Marty), brother Patrick Tompkins, brother Robert Tompkins (Samantha) and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. 

Daniel took accordion lessons during his childhood along with his sister, Debbie, and together they performed for a live audience. He took a mechanic's course at Hammond Tech and there he mastered working on cars. At the age of 18 he worked at Emissions Center in Hammond.

Daniel was the go-to man to fix anyone's vehicle, never asking for a penny. He also worked at Firestone Auto Repair in Lynwood. Being a jack of all trades, he also worked as a maintenance man for BMC in East Chicago, IN. He was a very generous, loving, and wonderful uncle who treated his nieces and nephews like his own. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
