Darla Faye (Avery) Hopson

Darla Faye Hopson (Avery), 67, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, March 7, 2025.

She is survived by her three loving daughters, Liberty (Brian) Martinez, April (Ryan) Alexander and Kristy (Miguel) Burgos; shared daughter, Elizabeth (Nick) Meyer; grandchildren, Brian and Josh Heinrichs, Jade, Hayley, and Nathaniel Alexander, Austin Frederick, Aiden and Paislee Burgos, Everett and Ellie Meyer, Sara and Matthew Kenealy, Alisah and Scott Janek and Gerald Foster; great-grandchildren, Ellah Anderson and Violet Heinrichs; brother, Ronald Avery; cousin, Keith Black; numerous nieces and nephews, dear friends, and her dog, Xena.

Preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Hopson; her parents, Lloyd and Mildred Avery; brother, Lloyd Avery, and her sister Edna (Joyce) Sutton.

Darla was born on May 14, 1957, in East Chicago, IN. She attended 1990 Bakersfield Adult Ed where she received her diploma. On December 31, 2005, she married Sherman Hopson, where they resided in Gary until Sherman’s passing on October 25, 2015. She enjoyed hanging out with her family and friends and telling some of the best stories.

Darla was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and a dear friend to many and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with Funeral Services starting at 7:30 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN, 46322.
