Darlene Planer, age 74 of Hammond, IN passed away on Monday, September 21, 2021. She was born on September 13, 1947, in Chicago, IL. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Robert Planer Jr., her daughters Doreen Parks, Tanya (Brad) Pahnke and Katie Enos, stepson Robert (Lucy) Planer III, grandchildren Zachary (Ariel) Willis, Joseph (Selena) Planer, Meagan (Beto) Acuahuitl, Taylor and Kinsley Pahnke. Sister Luella Tufo and brothers Daniel (Irma) Parks and Dale (Shayra) Parks and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Alice Parks Sr., son Dean Parks, brothers Harold (George) Parks, Tommy Parks, Robert (Bobby) Parks and sister Alice (Sissy) Sawyer, her first grandson Matthew Daniel Parks who was the light of her life and who she couldn’t wait to reunite with.
Darlene spent most of her adult life caring for her home and family, including her children and grandchildren. Her family was everything to her and she always went above and beyond to care for them before her getting sick. She was mom to many that she didn’t give birth to. She lived for the weekends to spend time with her many friends at Broken Arrow Campground in Winamac, IN where she and Robert camped for over 30 years. She will be remembered for her spunk and sass and quite frankly, her foul mouth. If she wasn’t cussing you out, she probably didn’t care much for you. Her hello was usually a middle finger that all welcomed. Darlene was a proud donor of her corneas to giftofhope. Darlene left an impression on every person she met and will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. The family has peace knowing that she and her grandson Matthew are finally together again.
Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322 on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm, with the Funeral Service at 7:00 pm.
