David Amand Burton
May 27, 1959 – December 30, 2025
David Amand Burton, 66, born on May 27, 1959, in East Chicago, Indiana, passed away courageously on December 30, 2025, at Community hospital in Munster following his resilient fight against cancer. In his final hours, he was gently surrounded by loved ones, with the timeless melodies of Elton John playing softly by his side. David, diagnosed four times since 2021, was distinguished not only by his ability to battle these adversities but also by his remarkable ability to stay positive throughout. His sense of humor was his weapon, and he wielded it with grace, even having the ER doctors and nurses laughing on his admission to the hospital on Christmas Eve.
David was more than a beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a beacon of joy, a repository of stories, an infectious laugher, and a zealous Elton John aficionado. The melodies of Elton John resonated in his life, and the auras of the concerts he attended were his most cherished memories. The home he shared with his sister Kim, niece Ashley, and great nephews Zack and Josh, encapsulated his heart's essence - filled with love, laughter, and irreplaceable memories.
David graduated from Morton High School and furthered his studies at Purdue Northwest. As a passionate advocate for special education, his compassionate nature and unwavering commitment extended to his community. His vibrant passion spread
from his family to sports, never missing a pay per view, game, or WWE event where he, Zack, and Josh weren't engrossed in an animated watch party.
David's bond with his niece Ashley was unparalleled. They shared an immense zest for adventure and a world filled with love and laughter.
David was preceded in death by his father Robert D. Burton before his birth, and his parents Bette L. Mize & Marvin "Gene"; Mize. David leaves behind an immeasurable legacy to his siblings Robert (Roxanne) Burton, Peggy (late Ron) Meseberg, Kim Chendrean, Darryl (Tracy) Mize, and Robbin (James) Fenes, numerous nieces, nephews and his best friend, Ricky Amador, among others.
His heroic fight against esophageal and lung cancers since 2021 has been supported by the remarkable staff of the Northwest Cancer Center in Dyer. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care provided by Dr. Singh and PA Zach Krueger.
Rest in peace, David, your courage, laughter, and love remains an enduring legacy.
