David J. Gassner at age 78, peacefully passed away on May 2, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife (Fran Gassner); Children- Katrina (Brian) Bergstrom, Karie Geib, Kelly (Brad) Dewees, Howard Geib, David Gassner, and Daniel Gassner; grandchildren- Joe (Misty) Hendon, Mike (Lanie) Aimutis, Danielle Dewees, David Gassner Jr, Megan Gassner, Kaylie Gassner, James Gassner; great-grandchildren Hayden and Braydon (Hendon)/ Mikaela, Michael, and Landon (Aimutis); including numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
David is preceded in death by parents John and Mary Gassner, brother Robert Gassner, and sister Agnes Gassner Sanders, FIL Leo Phillips, MIL Lena Edwards Phillips, and brother-in law Wayne Phillips.
David was born in Hammond, IN. He served his country honorably as a private in the US Army. On June 25, 1979, David and Fran married, being together for 47 years. Dave retired from Ford Motor in Chicago Heights, IL with 34 years of service. Pre-retirement he enjoyed flea markets and fabrication/fixing motor vehicles. In retirement he enjoyed going on long walks from his recliner to the fridge. David was a loving son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be truly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 16th, 2026. Location will be Slovak Club, 6920 Broadway Merrillville, IN from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with services being held at 4:00 pm.
