Deborah Evans Grigonis

Deborah (Jean) Evans Grigonis, aged 72, peacefully passed away at VNA Hospice Valparaiso on February 8th, 2025.

Deborah was born December 22, 1952, in Hammond, IN. She graduated from Hammond Tech in 1971, where she was on the diving team. Deborah resided in Lake Station with her two youngest children. She was a long-time loan officer for numerous companies including Tech Federal Credit Union, Allegius Federal Credit Union, Century 21, BMO, and ultimately retired with Chase Bank. She would take phone calls at all hours of the day and/or night. She went above and beyond, exceeding every expectation, to help those she worked with/for. Her devotion to the service of others was admirable and to this day, inspires many. She spent most of her time working and delighting in her yard with her flowers. When she was not outside, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, and cooking, especially Sunday dinners for her family. Her family was everything to her. As head of the family (nicknamed as “Chief”), she loved and served them abundantly, quietly, and humbly, expecting nothing in return; a chief servant.

Deborah was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Grigonis; parents, Beverly (Richard) Currie and Lawrence Evans; brothers, Michael Evans, John Currie; sister, Susie Currie; and son, Michael Ziemkiewicz Jr.

She is survived by her sisters, Yvonne (Charles) Stieffel and Jennifer (Bob) Race; daughters, Treva (Darren) Richerson and Beverly Doll; son, Charles W Doll Jr.; grandchildren, Timothy Zwiers, Michael Ziemkiewicz III, Nickole Fentress, Josiah (Miriam) Fentress, Alianna Albrizio, Matelyn Richerson, Christian Doll, Garrett Richerson, Wyatt Ziemkiewicz, and Trevor Doll; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Taylor Jr., Julian, NovaLee, Delilah, Titus, and Theodore; as well as close family friend, Michael (Jeri) Sutter.

Deborah was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. She will be missed by those whose lives she touched. 

Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service at Grace Baptist Church at 5785 Mulberry Ave Portage, IN 46368 from 5-7PM on Friday, February 21, 2025 to reminisce and honor the life of Deborah.
