Donald P. Kingston, age 66 of Hammond and Highland, IN passed away on Thursday, April 9th, 2026. He was fighting his second battle with cancer.
Don was a graduate of Highland High School, Class of 1977. Don recently retired from IN-Kote, an extension of Cleveland Cliffs in New Carlisle, IN. Don had a few different occupations; real estate; construction work in Chicago, (and was willing to point out each building he helped build), and drywall hanging. Don made friends wherever he was. He loved going to class reunions to catch up with everyone and was known to keep in contact with so many of them. You were his friends for life. People remember his wit and willingness to make people laugh and his generosity to help a friend in need. Don was an avid cyclist. He had maps for bike paths all over the United States and was determined to ride them all. He belonged to biking clubs, one near the Michigan border, and they would ride all over Michigan, and other clubs that he joined. He would ride Chicago Cycling events. He kept a bike in Florida to continue his bike path journeys. Dear to Don’s heart, was the Great Cycle Challenge for Children’s Cancer Research for which he rode his bike and collected donations for over 7 years. His face would appear at Times Square as one of the riders.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Ann (Hensley) Kingston. Don is survived by brothers, Mike (late Karen), Tom (Linda), Sean (late Tara); sisters, Pam (Tom) Wade and Mary(John) Tomczak. 12 nephews and one niece that will miss him; one aunt, Mary Dooley; special partner, Darice Hanlon; 11 great nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends.
