Donald Anthony Shapiro

Donald Anthony Shapiro, age 78, passed away on Friday, September 12th, 2025. Don is survived by his children, Karolyn (Lance) Raphael, Adam (Deanna) Shapiro, Leah Shapiro, Natalie (Matt) Grantner; grandchildren, Liam, Merrick & Eryn Raphael, Joseph & Emilia Shapiro, Andrew, William & Elizabeth Mckenzie, Josephine & Nadine Grantner.

Don is preceded in death by wife Debbie Shapiro, parents, Reuben and Joyce Shapiro, and brother Charles Shapiro.

Don was born August 19th, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Don was raised with his 6 siblings, Joseph, Charles, Dennis, Michael, Gene, and Christine in Highland Indiana. He graduated from Highland Highschool in 1965, and received a bachelors in Civil Engineering Technology from Purdue in 1972. Don and Claudia Zikas had four children together, Karolyn, Adam, Leah and Natalie. Don was a Land Surveyor in Indiana, Illinois, and New Mexico for over 50 years where he developed and surveyed commercial and residential property. He was the Town Engineer of Highland in the 80’s and 90’s. Don owned Shapiro Land Surveying located in Indiana where he lived most of his life.  

Don enjoyed math, music, art, movies, classic cars and great food. Don had many interests that he would love to explain over a cigar outside on a beautiful day. Don thoroughly enjoyed his own sense of humor and making light of any situation. Don was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, husband and uncle who will be deeply missed. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 from 3:00-5:30 PM with a service for family at 5:30 PM. Visitation will be located at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd. (One block south of Ridge Rd.) Highland, IN,  46322.
