Donald "Don" Kaminski

Donald “Don” Kaminski, beloved father of Lindsay, Michael, and Patrick, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the age of 67, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Raised in Merrillville, Indiana, Don lived a life rooted in family, faith, and community. He was a lifelong athlete with a special love for baseball, and spent many years coaching and sharing his knowledge of the game. He especially enjoyed teaching the art of pitching and the importance of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

Don believed in setting goals, treating others with kindness, and lifting people up with words of encouragement. His lessons were often woven into everyday moments – morning rides to school, afternoons on the ballfield, or simple affirmations – that left a lasting mark on those around him.

Faith was a cornerstone of Don’s life, guiding him on travels to Rome and shaping beloved holiday traditions. He took great pride in his Polish and Slovak heritage, found joy in sunshine and the beach, and never missed a chance to cheer on Chicago sports teams – especially his beloved White Sox. Some of his happiest memories were attending live games with his children. He also treasured creating new recipes with fresh vegetables from his garden and sharing his creations (hot sauce and salsa) with his family, friends, and community.

In his final days, Don showed the same resilience and strength that defined his life. Surrounded by his children praying the rosary, he passed peacefully, not alone. Though life’s journey was not without challenges, Don’s legacy is one of resilience, passion, and the enduring reminder that family matters most. He will be remembered by his children, extended family, and friends for his dedication, traditions, and memories he leaves behind.

A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 5:00pm–7:00pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN 46322. All are welcome to join the family in honoring his life.
