Dorothy V. Kish

Dorothy V. Kish was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Her parents were Leonard and Anna Lake, and she had one brother, Leonard, who all predeceased her. 

Dorothy moved to Chicago and worked in quality control for Motorola in Schaumburg before she took a job at Sargent & Lundy in Chicago where she organized and filed all the engineering plans and proposals. Those who know Dorothy can appreciate that her attention to detail uniquely qualified her for this position.

When she retired, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she took pleasure in watching the Hummingbirds and appreciated the temperate climate. Her path crossed her co-worker from Sargent & Lundy, Joe Kish, and the last phase of her life began back north with him in Indiana. They married in 1991 and spent the next twenty two years enjoying a peaceful retirement. Through her marriage, she inherited an extended family in California, Idaho, and Illinois. 

She and Joe ate out regularly, watched television, and enjoyed each other's company. Joe passed away in 2013, and since then, Dorothy attended church regularly and has been fortunate to live in her condo with her companions. Her interests were horses, drawing, old movies (anything with Judy Garland), and vintage television, especially Golden Girls. She enjoyed her daily drives to Wolf Lake and Centennial Park where she would watch the kids playing in the splash pad, the dog walkers, and the parasailers.

Visitation will be held at the Faith United Church of Christ, 3030 175th Street, Hammond, IN, 46322 on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, with the funeral service following immediately at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to the church or to Hospice of the Calumet.
