Edward Stephen Zahrndt

Edward Zahrndt, age 93, formerly of Highland, IN, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Joanne, and his grandson, Andrew Schau. He is survived by his daughter Ruth (Steve) Schau; son Edward J. (Jane) Zahrndt; and four cherished grandchildren: Paulina and Anna Schau, Stephanie and Jeremy Zahrndt. He will also be deeply missed by his dear sister-in-law and best friend, Dory Gruszka, along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Edward was born on July 16, 1932, in Chicago, IL. He earned a degree in Education from Ball State University and began his career as a teacher in Fort Wayne, IN. Later, he joined Sears, Roebuck & Company, where he worked for more than 25 years. A dedicated member of the Highland community, Edward served on the Highland Police Board for many years.

In recent years, Edward made his home in O’Fallon, MO. Though a lifelong Cubs fan, he also developed a deep appreciation for the St. Louis Cardinals.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be Friday, December 19, 2025 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8941 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Our Lady Of Grace Church, 3025 Highway Ave., Highland, IN.
