Edwin Gonzalez

Today, we honor and remember the life of Edwin Gonzalez. Born on the island of Puerto Rico on July 15, 1951 and passing away in Illinois on Sept 7, 2021 at the age of 70. As a child, he and his family moved to East Chicago, IN where he was raised into adulthood. His brothers and sisters were always an important part of his life. Edwin went on to serve his country in the military receiving a National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, and Expert Infantryman's Badge. He was a proud  Veteran of the United States Army. Chicago became his home for 40+ years thereafter.

Edwin married at the age of 27, and went on to have two children and two grandchildren whom he enjoyed spending time with. He loved to watch movies and read, always looking foward to picking up a good book! There was nothing quite like a hearty breakfast for him at Johnny's, where he would pass the time enjoying coffee and good conversation with the locals. He was a humble man who believed in God. We couldn't be prouder of how much progress he made in the last years of his life. No matter his struggles, Edwin kept a kind heart willing to lend a helping hand to those he saw in need. Always a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Edwin is survived by his wife Sonia, daughter Darlene Leyva and her husband Edgar, son Edwinson Gonzalez, grandchildren Xavier and Lennox Leyva.
Siblings Roberto Gonzalez, Lillian Aguilar and husband Jose, Nelson Arroyo and wife Joanne, Jerry Arroyo and wife Nureya, Milly Salas and Ricardo and Stepfather Juan Arroyo. Preceded in death by his Father Jose Antonio Gonzalez and Antonia Arroyo.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held for Edwin on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm, with a service beginning at 3:30 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN. 

Grace is a Gift from God it is the  Exercise of Love, Kindness, Compassion, and Unmerited Favor.
God's Grace meets us where we are and  carrys us through the difficult times, giving us the strength to Endure.
