Elaine Emily Glad

Elaine Emily Glad, age 97, of Hammond, IN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Monday, July 19, 2021. She is now happy and free to join her beloved husband, Roland Edgar Glad, married 63 years, up in heaven. 

Elaine spent her years raising her children, grandchildren, and working 25+ years at Almira’s Bakery, in Hammond, just down the street from her home. She was an avid church goer and never missed a Sunday, until unable, at Concordia Lutheran Church. Even at the age of 97, she still loved cleaning: washing dishes, making beds (first thing she did every morning), laundry, and ironing (a true talent!). She also had quite the sweet tooth; there was never a time she would deny herself a cup of black coffee with any cookie, candy, or cake she could find! 

She is survived by her three children, Glynn (Pat – deceased) Glad, Wayne (Suzanne) Glad, and Kristi (Alvin) Dempsey; her grandchildren, Brayden Glad, Julia (Dustin) Pooler, Kyle (Jennifer) Dempsey, Katlynn Dempsey, and Byrne (his fiancé, Katlyn) Dempsey. She also had six great grandchildren and her best friend, Press Dempsey (7yr old Bernese Mountain Dog).

Visitation will be held at Suncrest Christian Church, 10009 Parrish Ave, St John, IN 46373 on Monday, August 2, 2021, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am with the funeral service following immediately after.
