Eleanor Socin

Eleanor Socin,102, of Highland, Indiana passed away at home Friday, November 3, 2023. She is survived by: her 3 children Eric Socin, Jerry Socin and Carmen (Edward) Peterson, 3 grandchildren Micheal Socin, Dana Peterson and Neal (Tiffany) Peterson and 4 great-grandchildren Kamryn, Bennett, Jillian and Violet.  She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Margaret Cecil, sister, Rebecca Gillette and loving husband, John Socin.

Eleanor shared her musical talents and abilities by participating in and directing many church choirs and musical groups over the years as well as teaching elementary music in the School Town of Highland for 18 years. She had a keen flare and creative ability with her hands (sewing, embroidery, quilting and knitting) and with her words (poems, odes and acrostics) even up until the last years of her life. She touched many lives with her wit and creativity!

In retirement, Eleanor lived in Holiday Island, AR with her husband, John for 28 years until his passing in 2004.  Relocating back to Highland in 2005 she resided contentedly with her daughter and son-in-law for 18 years. Eleanor always kept her mind sharp by working crossword puzzles and was very faithful and active at the churches she attended over the years.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 10, 2023, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3711 Ridge Road, Highland, IN 46322 from 5:30-7:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 pm, with Pastor David Adams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
