Elizabeth Jane (Leslie) Campbell of Chicago, Illinois born February 28, 1927, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 20th, 2022, at the age of 94. Lovingly known as Bette and Nana. Preceded in death by her devoted husband Thomas V. Campbell and her parents, Walter and Anne (McDonough) Leslie, and her five siblings. Bette was married to Thomas in 1951 and had six children Robert (Gwen) Campbell, William (Pam) Campbell, Brian (Marge) Campbell, Terrence (Geri) Campbell, Mary Kay Campbell, and Timothy (Barb) Campbell. She is survived by all six of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bette, better known as Nana, has sixteen grandchildren Eva her oldest grandchild followed by Ryan, Melissa, Tom, Candace, Tom, Christopher, Brianna, Katherine, Karoline, Colleen, Meghan, Ty, Gillian, Corinne, and Alexis her youngest grandchild. She has 25 great grandchildren.
Bette was the proud owner of the Light Touch. She had an eye for design and art as an avid crafter throughout her life. Bette enjoyed playing cards, reading books, and spending time with family. Nana prioritized God and her family over everything and created a beautiful large family with Thomas. She was also a member of Pi Epsilon Kappa, bridge club, TOPS, parishioner of St. James the Less, and other organizations.
Bette was loved and appreciated by her family, business partners, and especially by those that needed someone at the end of their lives. Bette was fortunate to have lived with her daughter and granddaughter Alexis for the last 20 years. They shared their lives together and created beautiful memories. Someone who knew her well described her simply as a first-class lady.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm with a Funeral Mass Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave. Highland, IN, at 10:30 am with a visitation at 10:00 am until time of service. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery.
