Elizabeth "Liz" Nash Obituary

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Liz” Nash, age 87, of Schererville, Indiana. Liz was born Tuesday, September 27, 1938 to Catherine and Clair Ham, and passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Beloved spouse to Phillip, they cherished each moment of their 71 years of marriage, building a loving family, home and community together. Liz will be missed dearly by her family, friends and revered neighbors.

The middle child of three, Liz was born and raised in Hammond, Indiana with her two brothers, Bob and Art. Liz and Phil began their decades-long journey through life together at Hammond Tech High School and grew their family in their hometown, adding two boys, Phillip and Stephen. Ever the supportive partner, Liz accompanied Phil and his budding career at Nipsco to LaPorte and Fort Wayne, before settling back in Schererville to be near their family for the birth of their first of three grandchildren. Liz was a devout member of Bethel Bible Church, a dear neighbor of Plum Creek and The Greens of Scherwood and mainstay at all Griffith and LaPorte sporting, academic and choral events supporting her treasured grandkids.

She will be especially remembered for her kind heart, warmth and devotion to her friends and family. She loved hosting, celebrating accomplishments and making sure everyone was fed. She was even known for her personal catch phrase, “You didn’t eat much.” Liz enjoyed going to classical concerts and plays, long drives down country roads with her husband, attending their luncheon group events, summer vacations with her brother, sister-in-law and niece to the cabin in Michigan and sitting with Phil in the driveway socializing with neighbors. She never missed a chance for a cup of coffee and piece of pie, bragging about her family and watching the White Sox play. She relished in “her birthday month”, time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, and puppy snuggles from her granddogs.

Liz is survived by her adoring husband, Phillip; Children Phillip (Audrey) Nash and Stephen (Sharon) Nash; Grandchildren Christen Nash, Corey (Katie) Nash and Andrew (Tayler) Nash; Great-grandchildren Sophia and Madison Nash and baby Nash, arriving soon; Sister-in-law Barbara (Richard) Tuck; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Catherine and Clair Ham; Mother and Father-in-law Dorothy and Hesby Nash; Brothers Robert (Barbara) Ham and Aurthur (Nancy) Ham; Sister-in-law Patsy (Eugene) Poston; Niece and Nephew Laura Ham and Mark Ham.
