Ella Joan Wyman, 93, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 29, 2026, after a life filled with hard work, deep faith, and a spirit of adventure that took her to every corner of the country she loved.
Ella is survived by her son, Dennis (Robin McGee) Wyman of Cedar Lake; grandchildren Staci (Dave) Laud of Roselawn, Amanda (Gram) Alcantar of DeMotte, James (Molly) Wyman of Hobart, Andrea Marvel of Lowell, and Jacob (Alyssa) McGee of DeMotte; and great-grandchildren Rhett, Rubi (Skip), Ryder, Macoy, Claire, Lorelai, and Hazel (expected in July).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo “Wally” Wyman; her parents, Peter and Agnes Schoon; and her sisters, Shirley Hahn and Norma Schroeder.
Born on April 22, 1933, Ella spent most of her life in Gary, Indiana, before making her home in DeMotte in 2009. She was a woman of remarkable dedication — spending 40 years with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. before retiring, a testament to her strong work ethic and steadfast character.
Her faith was central to everything she did. A longtime member of Ross Reformed Church in Gary and later Community Christian Reformed Church in DeMotte, Ella poured her heart into Women’s Ministries, nurturing her church community with the same warmth she gave her family.
In her later years, Ella was a treasured resident of Oak Grove Retirement Community, where she dove into activities, crafts, and — true to her nature — finding ways to help those around her. She never stopped giving.
But perhaps her greatest joy, alongside her husband of 50 years, was the open road. Ella and her beloved Wally traveled together to all 50 states, camping along the way and collecting a lifetime of memories under the stars. Their partnership was one for the ages.
Ella Joan Wyman leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and love — and a family forever shaped by her warmth.
Visitation services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM with a funeral service at 5:00 PM, followed by a luncheon. Services will be held at Community Christian Reformed Church, 10498 N 450 E, DeMotte, IN.
