Elmer Kirkland, 91, of Hammond, IN, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2020. He is survived by: children Brenda (late Avery) Miller of Tellico Plains, TN, Kathy (Kenneth) Pugh of Hammond, IN, Judy (Edward) Hawthorne of Liberty, TX, Tim (Jennifer) Kirkland of Winamac, IN, and Cheryl Kirkland of Hammond, IN, grandchildren Erin (Lindsay) Stephens, Paul Hawthorne, Jeanie Miller, Jackie Kirkland, Jolene Miller, Benjamin Pugh, Justine (Tim) McDaniel, Jesse Kirkland, and Shiloh Kirkland, great-grandchildren Hayden Hawthorne, Bryan Weil, Madison Hawthorne, Liam Smith, Christopher Herndon, Gracelyn Herndon, and Isla McDaniel, sisters-in-law Joyce (Bill) Perkins and Nancy Millsaps, brother-in-law Wallace McCall, and many nieces and nephews and great and great, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: parents Charles Cecil Kirkland and Earlie Mae Kirkland, wife of 50 years Lois J. Kirkland, brothers John, Ralph, James, Ray, J.R. and Odell, sisters Marie, Gladys, Bertha, Thelma, and Anna Pearl, and several nieces and nephews.
Elmer served in the Korean War from 1953-1954. He loved visiting Tennessee, old cars, and Dunkin Donuts coffee!
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm with a Funeral Service at 6:30 pm. Burial will be Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Ave. Crown Point, IN, 46307 beginning at 10:00 am. A procession from the funeral home to the cemetery will begin at 9:30 on Thursday. Everyone is welcome to all of the services.
