Frederic Joseph Hanak, age 73, of Highland, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022. He is survived by his devoted wife Lyla (Greene) Hanak, daughter Amy (Chris) Higgins, and grandchildren Sydney and Haley Higgins. Fred was preceded in death by his son Joshua Hanak and parents Frank and Judy Hanak.
Fred was passionate about his Christian faith. He was a member and elder of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Highland for many years where he taught Confirmation, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. He was a graduate of Griffith Senior High School. While working as a pharmacy assistant at Ribordy Drugs, he met his future wife, Lyla. After receiving a master’s degree in Elementary Education at Purdue University, Fred taught elementary school in Munster. To better support his family, he switched professions and began a career at NIPSCO working in executive real-estate and as an energy broker before he retired. Fred enjoyed prestidigitation with his son and wife and was a long time member of Magic Masters of Chicago. He was an avid toy and memorabilia collector.
Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM with a memorial service at 11:30 AM by Pastor Eric Kleinschmidt of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
