Gail Rae Dixon RN
Gail Rae Dixon (nee Meltz) 76, entered into eternal rest with her loving family by her side on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Gail was born on July 16, 1949 in Hammond, IN. She was the daughter of Ray and Barbara Meltz who preceded her, along with an infant brother, Gregory.
Cherishing her loving memory is her beloved husband Robert of 58 years; children, Jeffrey (Carol) Dixon of Munster, IN and Jennifer (Scott) Creek of Fowler, IN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Diane Dixon of Munster, IN and Richard and Pam Dixon of Warsaw, IN; grandchildren, Nicole (Derek) Barnhart, Christopher (Rachel) Perez and their father Paul Perez, Jordan (fiancée Taylor) Dixon, Jillian (Mendel) Shank, and Juliette Dixon; great grandchildren, Quintin, Dominic, Rossie, Sadie, Sawyer and Malcolm; many loving nieces and nephews.
Gail graduated from Gavit High School Class of 1967, continued at Purdue School of Nursing and started her career of 34 years at St. Catherine Hospital, eventually ending her career as the Director of Nursing. Gail was a source of care, compassion and wisdom to many in the nursing profession. After leaving St. Catherine’s, Gail helped establish A+ Home Health in Highland, IN. Before retiring, Gail and her husband Robert started Dixon’s Florist and Wedding Center in Munster, where Robert and Gail enjoyed much success and many lasting friendships for over 30 years.
To know Gail was to love her. Family was the center of her life. She had a talent to make each and every person feel special. Each holiday brought special traditions, decorations, and a full menu (always with to-go containers...yes, just like the restaurants). Food was her love language for the soul. Her creativity and talents included cooking, baking, gardening and always finding the perfect Christmas present for every adult, grandchild and great-grandchild.
One of her favorite traditions was being hostess for the Baring Parkway 4th of July Kiddie Parade, picnic and fireworks display in the middle of the parkway with a full menu for all to enjoy.
Her unexpected departure has left a heavy void in all of our lives but we will take comfort in the many memories of her unconditional love and devotion dedicated to her family and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the loving care in helping Gail transition to her new home. Rob and Gail MacKenzie, Pammie Golder, Chuck and Diane Dixon and the loving words and prayers from special friends Donna Williamson and Toni Sri.
