Gary Palmer, age 76, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025.
He is survived by his children, Christopher (Amy) Palmer and Katherine (Tony) Kuypers; grandchildren, Miranda (Joseph) Stone, Sean Palmer-Mott, Julian (Kyla) Palmer, Justin Palmer, and Joshua Palmer; great-grandchild, Avery Mott; siblings William (Diane) Palmer, Michael Palmer and Cindy Palmer.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Chantal Palmer, parents Margaret and William Palmer, and brother Thomas Palmer.
He was born in Lansing, Michigan, on August 3, 1948, to parents Margaret and William Palmer. Gary Palmer was educated at Chicago Vocational School and went on to serve our country in the US Army. He married the love of his life, Chantal, on February 12, 1971. He was a Merchant Marine Officer for the Chicago Port Authority. He also worked as a stationary engineer for the University of Chicago and Johnson Controls. Later, he became the superintendent and managed the Water Tower Place.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with family on vacations. He enjoyed working on and building classic cars and motorcycles. He had several classic cars in his collection over the years.
He will be laid to rest at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, with his wife Chantal, where a memorial service will be held in honor of his service to our country on July 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm located at 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL, 60421 with a luncheon to follow.
We are so grateful for the time we had with Poppy (Gary). He was a constant source of wisdom and knowledge. He was always willing to lend a hand.
