George John Grassmuck III

George Grassmuck, 66, of Wheeling, Illinois passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2023. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joann Cain and George Grassmuck, Jr. 

After graduating from Wheeling High School in 1975, George enlisted to serve the country as a dedicated Marine based in San Diego, California.  Anyone who knew George, knew of his love for sports. As a huge fan of basketball, baseball, and football, George found ways to get others excited about these sports too! For over 30 years, he coached a countless number of teams in basketball, softball, & volleyball, and found time to become a decorated umpire for IHSA softball, grade school and middle school basketball and volleyball referee, and high school football umpire. But his love for sports grew the most when he sat with his daughters and watched the Bears or Cubs games teaching them everything he could about the teams he loved.

George was preceded in death by his mother Joann (2016) and his father George (2003), and is survived by his siblings Sandra, Gene, Traci, and Tammi, his 3 beautiful daughters Maggie, Paula (Brandon), and Ellyn (Cassius), and his 7 amazing grandchildren: Madeline, Teddy, Fiona, Elias, Vivienne, Eloise, and Victor.

A celebration of life will be hosted by his daughters on Sunday, November 12, from 11:00am – 2:30pm at the VFW Villa Park (39 E. St Charles Rd). In lieu of flowers, please donate to Donate Life America and consider becoming an organ donor.
