Gerardo Alaniz, known by many as Pastor Gerry, was called home to be with our savior on October 7th, 2020. Twenty years ago, God changed Gerardo's life. He had a vision of men and their families restored, along with restoration in the city of Gary. He started bringing men into his home and mentoring them to begin the healing process. It soon began to be too big for the house. This is what started Restoration Ministries (a non-profit organization) in Gary, a Christian mission for men in addiction. He wanted them to come out of their old ways, and so he taught them that it is better to serve and to fulfill the plans God had for them, as addiction is very selfish. He was a father to many, and was loved by many more. He worked with different churches and did many outreaches throughout NWI. He will be missed dearly by many.
He is survived by: wife of forty years Linda Alaniz, sons Lee (Heidi) Brown and Gerardo (Samantha) Alaniz Jr., daughters Tiffonnie (Chuck) Nelson, Nina (Joel) Gallardo, Gerriann (Seth) Klemm, and Kelly Alaniz, twenty-five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren (with one on the way), brother Manuel Alaniz Jr., sisters Juanita Alaniz, Tomasita Alaniz, and Amanda Alcorta, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, spiritual sons, and spiritual daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel & Margarita Alaniz, grandmother Maria Tijerina, and brother Tony Alaniz.
In lieu of plants and flowers, the family is asking for donations to help keep Restoration flowing and keep his legacy alive. There will be a box to put cards in at the church. Please make all checks payable to Linda Alaniz.
Services will be held at Living Stones Church, 909 Pratt St., Crown Point, IN, 46322 on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm with Ron Johnson Jr. officiating.
