Gregory M. McBroom

Gregory M. McBroom, age 70, of Griffith, IN, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy (nee Geissler) McBroom, daughter Laura (Robert) Ruzycki, son Matthew (Crystal) McBroom; six granddaughters, Anna, Sara, Emma and Leah Ruzycki; and Lucy and Adeline McBroom; twin brother Gary McBroom; sisters Ellen (Ron) Benigno and Marcy (John) Reffkin; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Phyllis McBroom.

Greg was born in Hammond, Indiana in 1950, grew up in the Hessville area where he attended and graduated from Morton High School in 1969. He joined the Hammond Fire Department in 1972 and retired after 33 years of service in 2005. He was a member of Hammond Optimist Club and a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was fondly referred to as “Big Daddy”, “Broomer”, “Mac” and “Papa”. He will be missed dearly.

Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322 on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a funeral service on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 10:00am at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 9009 Kennedy Avenue, Highland, IN 46322 with Pastor Eric Kleinschmidt officiating.
