Harold Simpson Obituary

Harold Simpson, 83, of Anderson, South Carolina, passed away at home in Griffith, IN on May 12, 2022.

Harold is predeceased by his wife, Linda Simpson, his mother Odie Higgenbotham, his father, James JC Simpson, brothers Marion (Edna) Simpson, Donald (Carolyn) Simpson and Ansel (Lou) Simpson, and sister Ellan Anderson. Left to cherish his memory are his children Robin Zacarias, Harold (Donna) Simpson, Cathy Simpson, Tammy Moore, grandson, Cory (Leslie) Simpson, a great-granddaughter, Madison Simpson, as well as his sisters Alice (Reuben) Steer, Betty (Carl) Jakes and Alice (Paul) D'Agostino. He also had many close friends who were like family to him. If you were ever affectionately referred to as a dillweed, you were family.

Harold was born on June 3, 1938, at home, in Anderson, South Carolina. He was enlisted in the Navy from June 9,1955 – December 27, 1957 and loved to tell stories of his time in service. He was known for being a fish out of water and his years in service suited him perfectly.

He married his wife Linda on May 28, 1960. They would go on to spend 55 years together before Linda’s passing in May of 2015. They raised 4 children in their lifelong home in Griffith, IN. Harold was a strong, tenacious family man who worked hard to support his family and create a life he was so very proud of. He was employed at the docks at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL, a job he truly enjoyed and talked about for many years. He would finish his career at Schererville Steel in Schererville, IN and was very passionate about what he did during his time there.

Harold was a true Southerner at heart and enjoyed being outside anytime he was able. He was a member of the Southern Lake County Conservation Club for many years. He loved to fish and spent many weekends in his camper down at the Kankakee River. Harold was an avid gardener with a garden that could put many to shame. He was also known for his famous baked beans which he cooked for hours on his woodburning stove. If you were ever looking for Harold, you’d find him watching westerns or his Indianapolis Colts in his garage, surrounded by anyone willing to have a good conversation. He was a beautiful soul that will truly be missed.
