Ishmael Vargas

Ishmael Vargas was the smartest 57-year-old man many of his family and friends ever knew. Ishmael is survived by his beautiful wife of 33 years, Sonia; his lovely children Erick (Lizz), Crystal (Jorge), and Danny; his parents Jose Trinidad and Rosa; his siblings Sandra, David, Didier, Jose, Efrain; and many beloved brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, and nieces.

Born in Durango, Mexico, Ishmael moved to Chicago with his family when he was a young adolescent. As the oldest of his siblings, he worked hard to help his parents pave the way towards the American Dream. He graduated from Bowen High School in 1982 and shortly after enrolled in DeVry University where he studied science and engineering. While he was enrolled in college, he met the love of his life, Sonia, at a church youth group. Their friendship quickly blossomed into a beautiful romance. Marrying in 1988, they began growing their family in the 1990s. Ishmael provided for his family through his talented and dedicated career as an engineer, which gave him the opportunity to travel to many countries.

Ishmael was an innovative electrical tinkerer and an original content creator. He was a freelance photographer, videographer, and DJ, creating many Vargas Production originals for family and friends. He enjoyed all things computer, and in his free time, worked on creating his very own original robots from circuit board on up. Loving nature, he enjoyed the peace and tranquility of camping and the outdoors.

Ishmael leaves behind a beautiful example of what a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend should be. His serene demeanor and quick wit will be remembered by the many people who were blessed to know him.

Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322 on Monday, August 2nd from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and a mass at St Andrew the Apostle Parish, 768 Lincoln Ave, Calumet City, IL 60409 on Tuesday, August 3rd at 10:00 am.
