James Patrick Griffith

James Patrick Griffith, age 75, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday evening, March 25, 2025.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kae, his daughter; Melina (Scott) Finchum; and four grandchildren: Sophia, Maddox, Spencer, and Mason. Also one sister; Patricia Leigh (Sam) Miller.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Raymond Oliver Griffith and Velma Louise Lawson; and four siblings, Elizabeth Dean Murphy, Glenda Rae Newton, Franklin Leo "Bud" Griffith, and Louise Reneé Schammert.

James (Jim) was born on the 19th of March, 1950 in Gary, Indiana. He is a graduate of Griffith High School, Griffith, Indiana.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, James was sealed to Kae Arelyn English for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah the 12th of December, 1972.

James loved to fish when he was younger; he later placed more emphasis on reading - he often said he was eclectic, so he had a variety of genres, from science fiction to westerns, and even mystery novels. He collected hundreds of these books! He was an avid TV watcher.

Jim often donated blood through the Red Cross. He served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976 in the Reserves - during the Vietnam War- prepared and ready for active duty if called upon.

Jim was a loving husband and father; he delighted in his four grandchildren, taking care, along with Kae, of the first baby for the first few years of her life. The boys followed after about four years, and by then they had a regular babysitter.

Visitation is Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 Wirth Road, Griffith, Indiana. At that point, non-family will be excused to collect in the chapel while the casket is closed. Funeral Service will follow from about 10:30 - 11:15 am. Military Honors will take place immediately following the service outside the chapel. Potluck luncheon will be provided by the sisters in the Griffith Ward, as arranged by the Relief Society President, Amy Maxey.

Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, 1505 Morthland Drive, Valparaiso, IN, 46383; 219-462-3511.
