James D. Reyome age 86, passed away on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, surrounded by family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Reyome; children, Mike Reyome, James (Shelley) Reyome, Tony Grimmer, Tyrone Hawkins, Kelly (Lupe) Salazar; grandchildren, Harmony (Eric) Gamblin, Taylor Hudson, Preston (PJ), Danielle Grimmer, Austin
(Adalita) Grimmer, Victoria Murday, Aliyah Hawkins, Jeanette (Khristian) Ayala, Lilyana Salazar, Mason Salazar; siblings, Judy (Bob) Burks, Jack (Patricia) Reyome; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and loved ones he considered family– most notably his faithful dog, Minnie.
Preceded in death by parents Glen and Mary Reyome, brother Richard Reyome, and daughter Kathy Grimmer.
James was born July 15th,1939 in Rochester, IN and was a 1957 graduate of Griffith High School and went on to proudly serve our country on the Destroyer in the US Navy. James graduated from St. Joseph Calumet College (Magna Cum Laude) with a
bachelor’s degree in education. He was a beloved member of the Griffith community, dedicating over 50 years to law enforcement and public service. His unwavering commitment to serving others touched countless lives, whether he was leading as the Chief of the Griffith Police, Chief of Lake County Police, joining multiple Griffith committees and organizations, or continuing his service as the Griffith Public Works Director.
James had a lifelong passion for sports, which began during his high school years while playing for the Panthers’ basketball, football, and cross country teams. His love for athletics continued throughout his life as he especially enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing in his free time. A devoted fan of Chicago sports, James proudly supported the Chicago White Sox every year. He was also an active member of Griffith Lutheran Church, where he found joy singing in the choir.
James was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, papa, great-grandfather, and uncle that will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August, 14th, 2025 from 3:00-7:00PM at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August, 15th, 2025 at 10:00AM at Griffith Lutheran Church, 1000 N Broad St. Griffith, IN.
