Jean M. (Pickett) Kovacik

Jean M. Kovacik (nee Pickett), age 92, of Whiting, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 12, 2021.  Loving mother of Jackie Legg, Jill (Bilal) Suboh, Joseph (Belinda) Kovacik, and adopted daughter Jeanine (Chris) Price. Special Granny to Renee and Jama Edwards.  Beloved grandmother to Connie Legg, Karen (Jeremy) Wienke, Danielle (Danny) Ruiz, Sami, Jenna and Jeanine Suboh, Stephanie and Tiffany (Zach) Kovacik, Brian (Eileen) Janiga, Mike (Shelly) Janiga, Jennifer (Josh) Barnett, Matt (Jenica) Oliver, Todd (David) Oliver, Lauren (Keaston) Jones, Brian and Joy Miller, Johnny and Nathan Kovacik. Caring great grandmother to Breann (Josh) Miller, Colin Caudillo, Zach (Allison) and Cody Bucsko, Jacob and Rylie Wienke, Valarie (Jordan) Selio, Danny and Armani Ruiz, Ashleigh (Jeffrey) Wilken, Alexandra, Katelyn, Christian, Jamiee, Evan and Jacob Janiga, Melissa (Dan) Burke, Rachel (Tyler) Harper, Rebecca (Addison) Bell, Emily and Aiden Fullington, Brody, Tinsley and Jude Oliver, Kensley and Kylen Jones, Tristen, Taressa, Caden, Cassidy, Aliaina and Mackenzie Miller, and Samuel and Grayson Kovacik.  Amazing great great grandmother to Paisley, Zoie, Everly, Holden, Wade, Tahj, Malaisia, Anya, Maisie, and Clarice.  Adoring cousin of Barb Chmela and Nicky Kmecza, and  Godmother Herbertine Peck.   A special thank you to her loving caregivers and bestfriends Karen, Breann, Jeanine, and Jama.  Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years John Kovacik, as well as their son Johnny Kovacik, daughter Julie Miller, granddaughter Michelle, and best friend Dinah. Jean graduated from Hammond High School in 1947.  She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ and a crossing guard for the City of Hammond.  She was loved by many and will be missed by more. 

Family and friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Rd), Highland, Indiana. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Hillside with burial following at Concordia Cemetery in Hammond, Indiana.
